Maternity

Santa Cruz Hospital’s (SCH) Maternity is a reference in caring for expecting mothers and the newly born. With a well-equipped obstetric center which relies on four surgery rooms and four delivery rooms, the expecting mothers have access to a unique service which offers comfort and safety when delivering their babies. All expecting mothers are accompanied by an obstetrician, anesthesiologist and neonatal pediatrician, as well as a specialized nurse. All this is done to ensure that the delivery of their babies is comfortable and safe.

At our maternity all expecting mothers receive analgesia (delivery with no pain), so that the patient does not suffer during the delivery. The mother’s and future baby’s monitoring is accompanied by equipments that allow the continuous examination of uterine contractions and fetal heart beats up to the moment of birth.

Combined Accommodation System
SCH’s maternity uses the combined accommodation system which allows the mothers to remain with their healthy, newly born babies in their apartments, staying together almost all of the time they spend admitted at the hospital. This system aims at strengthening the already existent bond between mother and child in the first moments of the baby’s life, granting both mother and child greater emotional stability.

Guidance Speeches
During all of the time in admittance, our accommodation team will offer guidance about how to care for your baby, answering any questions you might have.

A guidance speech for mothers is given by capable professionals and occurs from Monday to Saturday from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M. allowing mothers to take their babies.

Normal Labor
During the Healthy Birth Program we try to raise consciousness about the importance of normal labor. In one year alone, the number of c-sections decreased 30% in HSC’s obstetric on call unit. HSC is following the World Health Organization’s and Gynecological Obstetrics Brazilian Association Union (Febrasgo) guidance on this subject.

Normal Labor direct benefits:
- Reduction in maternal risks
- Faster recovery
- Decreased trauma for the newly born
